I am Thankful!

This has been a stressful year. I got a new position at work and life at BlackBerry has been very stressful with the company’s decline. But, as I get ready for work, I realize there is a lot I am truly thankful for.

  1. I am thankful that, after 20 years of marriage, I am still in love with my wife and love spending time with her. She is funny, chill, we are very compatible in many ways.
  2. I am thankful that after I deduct my needs and wants from my salary, I have plenty left over. Except for my mortgage, I have no debt. This is a good place to be. I have no desire to spend money faster than I make it.
  3. I am thankful that my health and fitness is such that I can do crazy things like run marathons. This fall, with just a few weeks preparation, I ran a half marathon at a pace nearly identical to three years ago.
  4. I am thankful I LOVE doing crazy things like running marathons and triathlons. There are so many rewards for this.  The sense of accomplishment, improved quality of life from being fit, the sense of having a kick ass life style, being outdoors, the awesome people you meet, the structure it creates in your life, the ability to lose weight easily. There are too many benefits to list. Here are a few more.
  5. I am thankful I really love living in Canada. Since that is where I am, that’s a good thing, ‘eh?
  6. I am thankful my wife has adapted so well to living in Canada!
  7. I am thankful for certain friends in my life that make the day enjoyable, give me something to look forward to, have my best interests in mind and that I can tell them anything and feel safe.
  8. I am thankful to have a family that cares and loves me so much.
  9. I am thankful for the fact that before I started university and I imagined in my minds eye what I would be doing in my career (being a kick ass engineer in high tech) that is what I have actually done for over 23 years now!
  10. I am thankful that the answer to the question, “If you could get paid to do anything, what would that be?” is what I am doing right now. Well, maybe I would like to work 10 less hours per week! But, that is just the way I am. Intense and driven. So, perhaps no way around that.
  11. I am thankful I learned to play guitar. That brings me great joy in my life.
  12. I am thankful for music! Music makes life so much better.
